New York Cannabis History On March 30, 2021, the New York State Legislature approved the legalization of  marijuana for recreational use by adults with Senate Bill S854A, which enacts the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.  Previously, the possession of small amounts of cannabis had been decriminalized, and medicinal cannabis use was allowed for qualifying patients. New Jersey Cannabis History On November 3, 2020, New Jersey voters approved the Marijuana Legalization Amendment, which legalized the possession and use of marijuana for residents 21 and older.   A decade earlier, New Jersey became the 14th state to legalize marijuana for medical use with the passage of the Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act. New Hampshire Cannabis History In 2013, New Hampshire became the 13th US state to legalize medical marijuana for qualified patients with House Bill 573.  While recreational use remains illegal, possession was decriminalized in 2017.
